The raw fruit is edible and slightly sweet, but the natural sweetness of the fruit is intensified by heat, which also softens the fruit and makes it easier to work with.

If you're adventurous, you can plant yucca seeds indoors, but plant several seeds because germination, which generally takes about three to four weeks, is chancy. Plant your banana yucca in full sun or partial shade. Yucca prefers dry, poor, sandy soil, but will adapt to nearly any well-drained soil.

It is native to Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Utah, and parts of Mexico, where it grows at elevations of 2,500 to 8,500 feet. The banana yucca grows amongst piƱon pines, junipers, and ponderosa pines in its native habitat.

Grasp the stalk in one hand and carefully reach down to the base of the flower stalk with a pair of pruning shears. Cut the stalk off as close to its base as possible. Remove any damaged, diseased or dead leaves, cutting them at their bases.. . . . .364011234965!]0000000000000009783314145767!]
