Unfortunately, trident maple does not do well when grown indoors. Although trident maple bonsai cannot be grown indoors, some other types of maple bonsai can be grown indoors. The Japanese maple can survive indoors, but it still needs to be taken outside for at least a short period each day during the growing season.
This tree grows at a slow to medium rate, with height increases of anywhere from less than 12" to 24" per year.
The soil should be kept evenly-moist soil but well-drained. The tree will need daily watering between spring and fall, but watering should be reduced over the winter. In spring and summer, the tree should be fed monthly with a balanced fertilizer. No fertilization is required over the winter months.
On trees which are not defoliated still the largest leaves can be removed at any time.
