Centranthus seeds can be sown directly on the soil's surface in the garden from early spring until late summer. Seeds can be started indoors 10-12 weeks before the date of the last killing frost of spring. Maintain a temperature of 70° F. within the growing medium.

Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Just cover seed with soil. Propagate 18-20°C. Germination takes 21-30 days approx.

Centranthus ruber is NOT "too invasive" in the Reno-Sparks, NV region. It does reseed moderately, and spreads a little, but it's nothing that can't be controlled by a quick tug on plants that emerge where they shouldn't. It's far less invasive than Euphorbia 'Chameleon', for example.

Jupiter's beard is an easy-going plant. It doesn't mind poor soil, partial shade, or inconsistent watering. But, because Jupiter's beard can become invasive, plant it where you can control it if it starts to spread. ... Plants will be less vigorous in these areas.. . . . .364011236363!]0000000000000009783314146275!]
