Echinocereus can be propagated either through offsets or by seed. To take an offset (a small plant growing from a mature plant), carefully remove it while keeping some roots attached. Let it dry in the open air until a callus forms over the cut end.

Propagation is from seed or offset cuttings. The seed is sown in spring or summer onto sandy seedbeds or prepared containers. Hedgehog cactus develops offsets that grow from the base plant. An offset is separated from the rest of the plant by cutting the stem at the base of the offset.

Engelmann's Hedgehog cacti grow at a pretty slow pace and form a somewhat open clump of large and spiny stems. The clumps can spread out as large as 3.3 feet (1 m). These clumping columnar cacti produce 3 to 60 branches.

Requires care in watering; water sparingly in cold winter months and refrain from watering in times of high humidity. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch, but make sure soil does not remain waterlogged.. . . . .364011234590!]0000000000000009783314146949!]
